ITS INTERNATIONAL WIDOWS DAY

The world remembers and celebrates widows every June 23rd.  At Splendour Vintage Heights Foundation, our activities started on 22nd June 2016 as we went on Radio Nigeria:Treasure 98.5FM Port Harcourt, and discussed on the plights of widows in Nigeria.

Today being the 23rd of June, we went on the streets of Port Harcourt, to get the opinion of single girls on what they think about the barbaric African traditions that subjects and maltreats widows.



Most of them in a relationship said that they could not ask their lovers such question which is "the harmful traditional practices against widows in their communities".
They were of the opinion that these harmful practices should be abolished.
Sadly they agreed that there was absolutely nothing that they could do to stop these harmful practices.

WHERE IS THE LOVE

As the world celebrates 'global day of parents' on the1st of June every year, I cant help but wonder what the same world thinks about those who are living and growing without having the experience of what a mother/father relationship is.  These are people who are constantly reminded by caregivers that they are not their parents and should therefore be grateful for whatever attempt they make in providing food, shelter, clothing and security which forms the basic needs of every human being. The task of caring for someone else in ones real poor state is a huge one and huge(er) is even the task of trully caring in the real sense of the word 'care'.  Then, the real issue is what could be the experience of a child who lives with people that present themselves as "foster parents" but are not parents in any sense of it.  i just hope these children will grow up and become parents than the people they see and live with today. IS THERE A SOLUTION: ILLITERACY IN THE RURAL AREAS

In defining illiteracy, it is important to understand what literacy is all about.   Literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts.
