The New Yam Festival is a celebration that depicts the prominence of yam in the social-cultural life of the rural people. The evening prior to the day of the festival, all old yams (from the previous year's crop) are consumed or discarded.

Some are practiced while others are not because of civilization. •For example in the Ibibio tribe using the left hand actively is a form of insult  such as using the left hand to give or accept something,  doing house chores and even using the left hand to eat.
